The Masters Lodge is able to offer you a truly exclusive 'Deco Experience'. Hosted by world famous Art Deco Ambassador Clarence Bertram St. John Fitz Montague, aka 'Bertie', the evening combines a city tour by vintage car, dressing in Deco costume (optional) as well as pre-dinner cocktails in the Art Deco lounge, followed by a Gourmet Dinner with New Zealand wines at the Lodge with Bertie.

Far from the world's great population centres and from the European and American cities where 20th Century design evolved lies a small city that is unique. Napier, New Zealand, was rebuilt in the early 1930s following a massive earthquake and fires that destroyed most of the city.  But by the end of the decade, Napier was the newest city on the globe!

Nowhere else can you see such a variety of buildings in the styles of the 1930s - Stripped Classical, Spanish Mission, Art Nouveau, and above all Art Deco - in such a concentrated area. And Napier's Art Deco is unique, with Maori motifs and the buildings of Louis Hay, admirer of the great Frank Lloyd Wright and Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

With Ambassador 'Bertie' as your personal guide, you will enjoy the legacy of Napier's brave rebuilding and savour the spirit of the optimistic Art Deco era. You will be collected in a vintage auto and taken to Penelope's dress shop to be outfitted for the evening.  Then, it is on to a drive through the historic Deco districts in Napier, Ahuriri, Hastings, and more!  Then, come home to The Masters Lodge for 'deco' cocktails, a gourmet dinner and discuss the events of the day...or yesteryear....with Bertie & Penelope!
